MISSION STATEMENT:

Established in Union, NJ and conceived as a multi-service youth services organization in summer 2018, Safe Space New Jersey is an entity that will assist Union and Passaic (County) youths ages 12 to 17 years (or older) by providing immediate access to local, state, and federal government bullying remediation information and enhanced community services.

Safe Space New Jersey also provides a virtual "safe haven" for our above target population so that they can express themselves publicly or more importantly... privately.

Safe Space New Jersey will eventually evolve into a multi - faceted service organization committed to improving quality of life for all State of NJ youths and their families by providing referrals for the following:

*TROUBLED OR BULLIED YOUTH REMEDIATION

*CONNECTING QUALITY OF LIFE RESOURCES TO FAMILY MEMBERS

*HEALTH AND WELLNESS RESOURCES INCLUDING PROFESSIONAL COUNSELING

Aligning with diverse groups of potential capacity builders will be the key to Safe Space New Jersey's potential success.

By collaborating with community stakeholders, neighborhood residents, community faith-based organizations, community development corporations, community business and Social Services, Safe Space New Jersey will lay the groundwork to provide Union and Passaic County youths with the resources to start (or finish) reconciling their problems regarding bullying with viable, helpful solutions.

TESTIMONIALS

FORMER President Obama said that as a child he was bullied for his ears and his unusual name.

He states that he didn't emerge unscathed from the torment, and stressed that bullying is not a rite of passage for youth, but a practice that can have destructive consequences. The am New York reports that, the White House conference has shockingly found that over one third of school aged children have experienced bullying, and nationally an estimated 180,000 students stay home from school each day , for fear of being bullied.

These alarming statistics highlight just how important proactive change about bulling, both in school and online, is. Hopefully, at the conclusion of this conference, we will have some more definite practices in place to stop the trend.

...During his adolescence, Frozen 2 star , Josh Gad states: "I realized early on [that] I was the absolute poster boy for bullying because I struggled with being overweight from a very early age, but I also discovered that comedy was a weapon that I was able to employ," he said on Off Camera with Sam Jones. "I remember one time a kid calling me fat in front of, like, a group of people. And, instead of kowtowing and giving him the opportunity to sort of, you know, leave, I started reciting that monologue from My Cousin Vinny, where he walks in the bar and he sees the guy in the arm sling. And I just literally started reciting to the point that the guy's like, 'What the f--- is happening right now?' And everybody is laughing at him."

Singer Shawn Mendes opened up about teasing he experienced after posting one of his earlier videos to YouTube. At the time, he was in 9th grade and a group of older bullies at school had gotten word, teasing him about it the next day. “[They were] yelling out ‘sing for me Shawn sing for me!’ in a way that made me feel absolutely horrible… made me feel like a joke, like what I was doing was just stupid and wrong,” Mendes recalled. “It’s not joke to me,” he said. “To make someone feel bad about doing what they love… every single person deserves to do what makes them feel alive.” “I’m writing this not only to the 15-year-old kid who’s scared to follow their heart because of what people might say, but also to the 50 year old who may be doing the exact same thing,” Mendes explained.

Kim Petras, pop star, who underwent gender-confirmation surgery when she was 16, tells about how bullies affected her young years. "Just being transgender and going to school is tough. [I learned] people will not like you or people will like you, that's just a reality of life," she said.

"You cannot please everybody, and a lot of people bully people because they're jealous or because they have their own personal issue that they project on you. Sometimes it doesn't even have to do with you, sometimes people are just bored."
